Winding up to wind down is often how we characterize the last few weeks of the school year and the intensity of this last spell would do justice to that description. It has been a wonderful finish overall, however, to a very special year and I think that the various components of the celebrations would attest to that. The only time in life that we want to be detached from our emotions is when we are making big decisions, otherwise, we should be emotionally involved in what we are doing – it makes it all that much more meaningful and relevant.

There is an intensity about life in a boarding school anyway, so when times of closure or leaving come around there is no doubt that Shakespeare’s, “parting is such sweet sorrow” is to the fore. A glance at the Closing Day photos and a taste of some of the words will give the reader an idea of the feelings that were around during the last week and on Saturday in particular. Searching for the right metaphor, I have beautiful ice-sculptures in mind or even live performances of something special as I look to encapsulate how we feel right now – in essence, we have the chance to create it all again in September!
