Shawnigan Faces Making Headlines in the Rugby World!
Fresh off leading his squad to a second consecutive AAA Provincial Championship, Shawnigan 1st XV Head Coach Tim Murdy has been selected as an Assistant Coach of the Canadian Senior Men's Select XV in the upcoming Americas Rugby Championship (ARC).
Taking place from October 5-15 in Cordoba, Argentina, the ARC features select teams from Tonga and the USA in addition to the home side Argentines with matches played in a round-robin format. The tournament gives Coach Murdy and fellow staff members the opportunity to evaluate domestic-based players ahead of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which will be held in New Zealand.
One of the players selected to the team who will surely have the coach's eye will be former charge Brett Beukeboom '08. Brett, who is currently plying his trade with the University of Victoria Vikes, will be relishing his first opportunity at the Senior Mens' level and will be keen to impress coaches with his eye on being one of the players chosen to represent Canada in New Zealand.
