Senior Men's Heavy 8 Win—On Friday morning, the Senior Men's Heavy 8 departed for Seattle, WA for the 23rd Windermere Cup Opening Day Regatta. After the drive, ferry, unnecessarily long wait at the border and far too many renditions of "I'm on a Boat" the crew made it safely to Seattle. Braving heavy winds and heavy boat traffic Friday evening, the guys managed a quick row out on the course in the warm sunshine. In true Windermere Cup fashion the previous day's sunshine turned into mild temperatures and light rain. However, approximately 2000 spectators braved the light drizzle to cheer on the various Masters, Junior, and Collegiate events.
The Shawnigan 8 was entered in the high school event against three other crews. They raced well and ended up winning by just over 4 seconds. Much fun was had by all included. I know the crew especially enjoyed the words of encouragement from current UW oarsmen and SLS alums Max Lang, BJ Caron, and Stephen Connolly. Also, special thanks to the Macintosh, Rees, and Richardson families for their help, support, and photography.
