Rugby News
A successful weekend was enjoyed by our Senior girl's rugby team—they travelled to Edmonton to play in the Ross Shepard Invitational Rugby Tournament. The competition was just what this young group needed and we definitely came out a better team and a closer group. We treated our Edmonton parents, alumni, and friends to 4 exciting games, winning three and tying one. This earned us top spot in the tournament, tied with a very good high school from Edmonton. The team led by Julia B. played their hearts out despite the bumps, sprains and bruises that come with tournament rugby. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the team's efforts and our determination to improve.
It wasn't all hard work with the West Edmonton Mall close by and the stores on White Avenue to keep the girls relaxed. A barbecue at the Goss's home with video clips and photographs of the weekend's games was great fun and a fitting end to two days of tough rugby. Our final stop was Barb and Ernie's Bavarian restaurant Sunday morning where we feasted on the specialty of the house Egg's Benedict, and the entertainment from our German host. A few Bratwurst were consumed by the hardier members of the group.
Congratulations to the "Iron Women" for their successes on the field and for being such great ambassadors of Shawnigan.
