Shawnigan's 1st XV is through to the AAA Provincial Championship Final for the second consecutive season after a well-deserved 38-14 win over the fifth-ranked Earl Marriott Mariners. Shawnigan's expansive attack proved too much for their opponents, running in six tries and finding themselves comfortably ahead for most of the game. Captain Tye H. scored three tries, with Steven B., Christian C., and Monty T. adding singles, while Carlin H. added a conversion, penalty, and drop goal to complete the scoring.
The win leaves only one team standing between the 1st XV and the realization of their season-long goal: St. Michaels University School, who needed an injury time try to nip St. George's 15-14 in their semi-final matchup. While Shawnigan came out victorious in the two teams' only clash so far this year, Coach Tim Murdy and his staff know that SMUS is not a team to be taken lightly and that both teams are playing their best rugby at a time when it matters most.
The AAA Championship Final will take place on Saturday, May 30th, at 3 pm at UBC's Thunderbird Stadium. Anyone in the Vancouver area is strongly encouraged to come out and cheer the boys on to what would be the School's second Provincial title, and first since 1998. We look forward to seeing you there!
