Shawnigan Basketball Skills
This term, basketball skills sessions are full-on as some of our strongest players hone their proficiency on the court. This is a seniors-only game for now, but both girls and boys are involved. Mr. Pasquale says that the girls compete with the boys head-to-head. “The girls have to work really hard and show great resolve to keep up with some of the stronger male players—it is physically challenging for them because the boys are working at maximum drive. We are getting ready for the upcoming season by re-establishing skills—ball handling, passing and shooting. In the next couple of weeks we will expand the program to strength training as well.” Judging by the talent on the court this week, we have a great season ahead. The basketball season begins in earnest in the last week of November.
Meanwhile, in Victoria, two Shawnigan Alums are playing for the Vikes this season. Adam Connolly ’09 and Mike Berg ’06 both attend UVic and are valuable members of that basketball program.
