Sr. Boys at South Island Basketball
On Saturday, February 6, in the South Island Championships, the Senior Boys Basketball team defeated Gulf Islands 88-48 in the 10am game which guaranteed them a berth into the Islands next week. Howard Y. did a great job leading the team. Shavaan S. scored 33 points, Pat E. added 14 points and Lukas B. another 13. Duncan L. and Ethan C. combined for 9 points off the bench. At 5:45pm, they continued with a convincing 89-61 win over Lambrick Park to finish 3rd in the tournament. Shavaan had 39 points and 25 rebounds. Pat and Luis O. scored 21 and 19 points respectively. Will T. added another 8 points and Lukas rebounded solidly on both ends of the court with 12.
It was very encouraging to have the players collect themselves after a tough 2-point loss on Friday night. The few returning fans witnessed a very composed and determined Shawnigan team.
The players would like to thank Mr. Austin and Mr. Lam for their knowledge and support on the bench and Mr. Andy Olson for helping out during this week’s practice sessions as well as organizing the minor officiating duties.
During Ski Week, the boys will be preparing for a tough Island Championship draw at SMUS. They see their first action on Thursday against Cedar at 7:15pm. The top three teams will advance to the AA Provincials in Kamloops on February 25-27.
