Erica Dalrymple

Affectionately known as “Ms D”, Erica has been at Shawnigan since 1992. She has been part of Kaye’s House (almost) since the beginning. Kaye’s was built in 1989 and Erica took over as its second House Director in 1993.

Erica also teaches math and is an integral part of training and professional development for all residential staff. Born in England, Erica moved to Montreal with her family in 1967. She met her husband George when she was 17 and the romance blossomed while she was at McGill and he was at Lakehead University studying forestry.

After graduating from McGill, Erica earned a masters degree from the University of Saskatchewan — where she later taught statistics — and then moved to Vancouver Island with George who had accepted a position with the Canadian Forestry Service.

Erica and George (who is very involved in the local community and has served as a volunteer fire fighter for many years) have two children who are both Shawnigan graduates.

Erica is very proud of her 58 charges in Kaye’s House. What she likes best is witnessing the progression of grade 8 and 9 girls who arrive at Shawnigan not really knowing who they are, or who they are going to be, who graduate as amazingly confident young women. She is honoured to be part of their Shawnigan journey helping them become strong young women.
