Jenner - Grade 8
There is only one word that I can use to describe life here at SLS, and that word is Great! At first it is nerve-racking, knowing that in most cases you are stepping here straight from middle school or elementary school. When I first got here (in grade 8) I was absolutely terrified. There were some pretty huge guys! I didn´t know what to think. My first few days were easy. We had next to no work. Unfortunately, they were terribly misleading! There was a whole bunch of BBQ´s for all of the new kids, as an ice-breaker really. So it was easy to meet new people and make new friends. Plus, the returning kids don't come back for a few days after you arrive. The first term is long and annoying, but I have just recently finished my second term and man o´ man it was much, much easier and much more fun! The first few days of being in the house are rather awkward but you get past that within the first month. The teachers here are so great! They help you with everything and in every way. The class sizes are smaller so the one-on-one learning comes into play a lot. The food at Shawnigan is good. I think it's safe to say Shawnigan has the best food of any of the boarding schools on Vancouver Island. Coming to Shawnigan is one of the best choices you can make.
